Janna Bonds

SSCC

Janna Wright Bonds is the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Institutional
Research at Snead State Community College. Janna has a MS in Secondary English
Education, School Counseling and Educational Leadership from Jacksonville State University.
She spent 23 years of her professional career with Marshall County Schools as a classroom
teacher, school counselor, system data and technology integration specialist, and a supervisor. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Foundation for Marshall Medical Centers.

In the role of Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Institutional Research, Janna also serves as the SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison. This includes communicating updated
SACSCOC policies and procedures to the administration, faculty, and staff at SSCC as well as communicating with SACSCOC personnel regarding upcoming reports, visits, substantive changes, and various other issues or concerns that may arise. At the forefront of this role is the oversight of the SACSCOC reaffirmation process. As the Director of IE/IR, she works with many stakeholders to plan, research and evaluate activities for institutional effectiveness and continuous improvement. Together all of the hard work ensures that SSCC not only meets SACSCOC criteria, but develops a climate and culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Janna is married to Scott Bonds. Scott is the principal at Douglas Middle School, and
they have three beautiful daughters. They are active members of Bethany Baptist Church and enjoy spending time with their girls and supporting them in all of their activities.

Susan Williams Brown

GSCC/AEA (Retired)

Susan Williams Brown recently retired after 45 years as a proud Alabama Certified Teacher. A lifelong learner, she received her education from Whitesboro Elementary School, Sardis High School, Snead State, Jacksonville State University, and the University of Alabama.

Throughout her distinguished career, Susan taught at Gadsden State Community College, with additional part-time experience at Snead State and Shelton State. She also taught Math Education courses at the University of Alabama and Auburn University. Earlier in her career, she served as a high school teacher in both Etowah County and Marshall County.

Susan is the Past President of the Alabama Education Association and served with distinction on the TRS/PEEHIP Board of Control for 24 years. In recognition of her contributions, she was honored as the National Higher Educator of the Year in 2024. Beyond education, she remains actively involved in civic organizations and community service.

Her career stands as a testament to a lifelong commitment to education, advocacy, and service to the people of Alabama.

Marty Hatley

Boaz City Schools

Marty Hatley is a dedicated educator with over 20 years of experience, currently serving as an EL Teacher and Program Manager at Boaz City Schools in Boaz, Alabama. Marty is an advocate for English Learners and their families, and provides tailored instruction and program leadership. He has also held roles such as Migrant Program Specialist at Albertville City Schools, Student Support Center Administrator at Guntersville City Schools, and Regional EL Coach for the Alabama State Department of Education, contributing to impactful educational initiatives across the state.

A graduate of the University of Alabama with an Educational Specialist degree and a Master’s degree in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching, Marty has been honored with accolades including Boaz City Schools’ overall Teacher of the Year (2014-2015), Boaz Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year (2014), and recognition as a Distinguished Educator on the USS Harry S. Truman through the Navy Educator Program.

Outside the classroom, Marty treasures time with his family, embarking on outdoor adventures, and working in his yard. He is excited to serve on the Rick Baker Scholarship Committee, helping students achieve their academic dreams.

Taylor Hayes

Taylor Hayes holds an A.S. from Gadsden State Community College (2015), a B.S. in Business
from Jacksonville State University (2017), and an M.Ed. in Higher Education from the University of West Alabama (2019). She has worked at Snead State Community College since 2018 in a variety of roles and now serves as a Speech Instructor and Bridge Program Director. Through her work at Snead State, she met her husband in 2019, and together they reside in Albertville with their three children and two dogs. Outside of work, Taylor enjoys spending time with her family, fitness, and watching sports. She is passionate about Snead State and takes pride in helping students succeed by finding ways to remove barriers along their educational journey.

Moises Luna

SSCC

Moises Luna is a Financial Aid Specialist and Scholarship Representative at Snead State
Community College. He earned his associate degree in biology from Snead State and then
continued to pursue his bachelor’s degree in forensic science with double minors in Chemistry and Biology from Jacksonville State University. With a strong commitment to student success, he specializes in guiding students through the financial aid process and connecting them with scholarship opportunities that support their academic and professional goals. Moises enjoys spending his free time doing Legos and taking care of his golden doodle named Benson. Along with taking care of Benson, Moises also takes care of his two nieces and enjoys watching them participate in their extracurricular activities.

Heather Stewart

SSCC

Heather is a Financial Aid Specialist and Veteran Affairs School Certifying Official at Snead State Community College, where she is committed to helping students navigate the financial aid process and supporting veterans and dependents of veterans as they pursue their education. She earned her associate’s degree in Office Administration at Snead State Community College before beginning her career in higher education. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Business from Faulkner University.

Outside of her professional role, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their two children.

Tom Warren

SSCC

Dr. Thomas Warren is a dedicated educator, horticulturist, and collegiate fishing coach with a passion for teaching and student success. He earned his Ph.D. in Horticulture from Auburn University, where his dissertation focused on fatty acid production in pecans relative to nutritional inputs. He also holds a Master of Science in Biology from Jacksonville State University and a Bachelor of Science in
Horticulture from Auburn University.

Since 2014, Dr. Warren has served as a Biology and Horticulture Instructor at Snead State Community College in Boaz, Alabama, where he teaches a wide range of courses in both fields. He also serves as an adjunct instructor with Dyersburg State Community College, TN E-Campus Board of Regents, Wallace State Community College.

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Warren is the founding coach of the Snead State Community College Fishing Team, leading it to multiple national championship qualifications and top community college rankings nationwide. Under his leadership, the team has consistently earned recognition, including several “Club of
the Year” and “Academic All-American” honors.

Dr. Warren also serves as the chairman of The Rick Baker Scholarship, The Snead State Fishing Team Scholarship, The Snead State Horticulture Scholarship, and Vice President of the Snead State Education Association.

During his tenure at Snead, Dr. Warren has secured over $160,000 in grant funding to support horticulture programs, beautification projects, scholarships, and greenhouse development. His professional contributions have been recognized with honors such as the Alabama Community College System Chancellor’s Award and the League of Teaching for Innovation Award.

As an active member of the Alabama and National Education Associations, as well as the Alabama Nursery and Landscape Association, Dr. Warren continues to blend his expertise in biology, horticulture, and education with his commitment to student growth, community engagement, and applied research.
